Maple Park Illinois
Maple Park is a village situated within DeKalb and Kane counties in Illinois, USA. As of the 2020 census, it boasted a population of 1,433, an increase from 1,310 in the 2010 census. Originally, the village was known as Lodi.
History
The village's initial name, "Lodi," was inspired by Lodi in Lombardy. It was later renamed Maple Park, drawing its new name from a grove of sugar maple trees in the vicinity. The post office, originally established in 1837 under the name "Lodi," underwent a name change to "Maple Park" in 1880.
Geography
Predominantly located in Kane County, Maple Park also extends into DeKalb County, covering more land area. Illinois Route 38 traverses the village's southern boundary, providing access to Geneva 15 miles (24 km) to the east and DeKalb 8 miles (13 km) to the west. The village is approximately 52 miles (84 km) west of downtown Chicago.
Based on the 2021 census gazetteer files, Maple Park encompasses a total area of 2.16 square miles (5.59 km²), with 2.15 square miles (5.57 km²) of this being land, accounting for 99.86% of its total area.
