Historic All-Female Broadcast Crew Takes the Helm for Cubs vs. Angels Game
CHICAGO – Lake View: On July 7, the Cubs' broadcast against the Angels featured an all-female crew for the first time in the team's history. The broadcast team included Beth Mowins as the play-by-play announcer, Elise Menaker as the game analyst, and Taylor McGregor as the field reporter.
In celebration of this historic broadcast, Marquee Sports Network honored women in baseball throughout the pregame and postgame shows, as well as on its social and digital platforms. The network showcased play-by-play calls submitted by young Cubs fans and offered opportunities for fan engagement with the broadcasters through social media leading up to the game.
“Beth, Elise, and Taylor excel in their roles at Marquee Sports Network. Their collaboration on this broadcast marked another milestone in Cubs history and provided a meaningful and memorable experience for our fans,” said Diane Penny, General Manager of Marquee Sports Network. “We looked forward to an outstanding broadcast, and we knew they would continue to inspire the next generation of broadcasters.”
About Beth Mowins
Mowins had been a play-by-play announcer for select Cubs games since 2021, becoming the first woman to hold this position in Cubs history. A seasoned ESPN broadcaster specializing in men's and women's college sports, she made history in 2017 as the first woman in 30 years to call an NFL game. Mowins is a 1989 graduate of Lafayette College, where she was a three-time all-conference basketball selection and is a member of the Lafayette College Maroon Club Hall of Fame.
“Elise and Taylor are fantastic colleagues, and I was excited for the opportunity to work together on this historic Cubs broadcast,” said Mowins. “It’s always an honor to work in the Wrigley Field broadcast booth, and we were all looking forward to this special broadcast.”
About Elise Menaker
Menaker joined Marquee Sports Network as a field reporter and studio host in February 2020, contributing to game broadcasts and hosting pregame and postgame shows. In 2022, she became the first woman to serve as a television analyst for a Cubs game, and in 2023, the first woman to be a radio analyst for a Cubs game. Menaker graduated from Cornell University, where she was a four-year starter on the softball team and was named to the Cornell Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2020.
“I was really looking forward to working with Beth and Taylor on this special day at Wrigley Field,” said Menaker. “Sharing this broadcast with Cubs fans, especially young girls who may dream of getting involved in baseball, was exciting. My mom always told me to dream big, and I hope to inspire young girls and boys to do the same.”
About Taylor McGregor
McGregor joined Marquee Sports Network in 2020 and served as the primary field reporter for Chicago Cubs games. Previously, she was an on-field reporter for the Colorado Rockies with AT&T SportsNet Rocky Mountain and currently held roles with MLB Network as a host and ESPN covering college football. A University of Arkansas graduate, McGregor is a native of Golden, Colorado.
“It’s always a joy to work with Beth and Elise, and being part of this first all-female broadcast was something we looked forward to,” said McGregor. “This broadcast was a great opportunity to show young fans, especially girls, the many opportunities in baseball.”
