The International Baccalaureate® (IB) offers a comprehensive continuum of international education. Its programmes aim to foster both personal and academic achievement, challenging students to excel in their studies and personal development. To teach IB programmes, schools must receive authorization, and every authorized school is recognized as an IB World School. Bouchet International School is proud to be authorized for both the Primary Years Programme (PYP) since 2014 and the Middle Years Programme (MYP) since 2015.

What is the Primary Years Programme (PYP)?

The PYP is designed to prepare students to become active, caring, lifelong learners who demonstrate respect for themselves and others, capable of engaging with the world around them. It emphasizes the holistic development of each child as an inquirer, both within and beyond the classroom.

By implementing the PYP, our school fosters students' academic, social, and emotional well-being, emphasizing international-mindedness and strong personal values. The PYP promotes independent learning skills, encouraging every student to take ownership of their learning journey.

The programme incorporates local and global issues into its curriculum, encouraging students to explore six transdisciplinary themes and understand the connections between them. These themes include 'who we are,' 'where we are in place and time,' and 'how the world works.'

The Primary Years Programme (PYP) offers schools a comprehensive framework for delivering high-quality, international education. It provides a curriculum framework consisting of essential elements—knowledge, concepts, skills, attitudes, and action—that young students need to succeed in their present and future lives.

Schools utilize these elements to construct a rigorous and challenging primary curriculum for international education. The PYP aims to create a curriculum that is engaging, relevant, challenging, and meaningful for learners aged 3–12. It adopts a transdisciplinary approach, focusing on issues that span across different subject areas.

The PYP is structured around:

  • The written curriculum, which outlines what PYP students will learn.
  • The taught curriculum, which explains how educators teach the PYP.
  • The assessed curriculum, which outlines the principles and practices of effective assessment in the PYP.

What is the Middle Years Programme (MYP)?

The MYP is a rigorous framework that encourages students to establish practical connections between their studies and the real world.

It is a five-year programme, which can be implemented collaboratively between schools or in various abbreviated formats (two, three, or four years). Students who complete the MYP are well-prepared to undertake the IB Diploma Programme (DP) or Career-related Programme (CP).

The MYP curriculum framework consists of eight subject groups, providing early adolescents with a broad and balanced education. Each subject group requires a minimum of 50 hours of teaching time per year throughout the programme. In the final two years, students have the flexibility to tailor their studies to meet local requirements and personal learning objectives.

In the last year of the programme, students have the option to participate in the MYP eAssessment, which provides IB-validated grades based on examinations and coursework. Those who opt for external assessment are eligible to receive MYP course results and the IB MYP Certificate.
